The Cabaret La Perla is situated in the historic centre of Mexico City It is best to get there early as the Caberet is quite small. However in fun and atmosphere it is absolutely enormous.
Inside the the lights are low, with flashing neon type lights on all the walls.
I had my camera with me but without the most appropriate lens. Still, I thought, “You have to go with what you have!” And somehow the blur and the grain seemed in my mind, to catch the feeling of the place.
The people starting coming in and the place began to fill…..
There was a wide range of people, young and old, conventional and exuberant, straight and gay, Nothing seemed to matter other than to have a good time.
Between the Cabaret numbers the dance floor heaved to a wide range of Mexican and popular music. Like the public the music was varied and there was indeed something for everyone.
And for those not dancing, there was plenty of laughter and liquid refreshment.
Twice in the evening, the dance floor was cleared to make way for the cabaret acts of dancers and singers……..
but mainly drag artists……….
who were wildly appreciated by all!!!
I must say I had a great time in “La Perla” with my Mexican friends, the dancers, the drinkers… and of course all the devils and the mermaids. Buenazo!!!!!!!!!
